HOW TO GROW SPINACH

SPINACH GROWING FACTS:

   

Grow a super food loaded with tons of nutrients with our Spinach GIY kit.  Spinach is great for skin, hair and bone health and is packed with proteins, iron, vitamins and mineral. These delicious greens are easy to grow with our easy-to-follow instructions and add a great colour to your garden.

HOW TO PLANT:

Fill your pot with the given growing medium. Wet the growing medium with water to provide the right environment for seeds to germinate.

Sprinkle seeds on surface and cover with growing medium.

Keep the growing medium moist by spraying water twice daily.

GERMINATION AND GROWTH:

The sprouts should emerge within 7-14 days depending on the growing conditions. Plant will grow up to 20 cms. 

WATER REQUIREMENT:

Water the spinach plants gently and thoroughly. Keep the soil moist but not soggy or drenched.

FERTILIZER:

In order for plants to grow well, it’s important to provide the right nutrients. Every GIY kit contains organic micronutrients. Use them as per instructions.

HARVESTING:

Spinach leaves will be ready for harvesting within 3-4 weeks after planting. When harvesting, cut the leaves back to about 2 inches off of the ground, taking care not to cut into the growing point. Within 4 weeks, the leaves should regrow for a second harvest.

INSECTS AND DISEASES:

Common diseases for spinach plant are mildew, mosaic virus and damping off, which refers to the rotting of stem and root tissues at and below the soil surface. Avoid overwatering and check the pot drainage. You can also use a mixture of Neem Oil (2-3 ml) and water (1 lit.) and spray the plant weekly to avoid diseases.

Insects such as Aphids, Jassids, Thrips and White Fly can affect spinach growth as well. The best way to control these pests is to remove them by hand. You can also use the the Neem Oil mixture as mentioned above to prevent them.

NUTRITION VALUE:

Spinach is an excellent source of Vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, C, E and K, manganese, folate, magnesium, iron, copper, calcium and potassium. It is also a good source of dietary fiber and protein.
